Last Minute Moves

  • Start planning early

Give yourself enough time to prepare for the move. Begin by creating a moving checklist and setting a timeline to book your moving company, get arrange the parking, and reserve the elevator. Start packing nonessential items as soon as possible, it is easy to underestimate how long it will take to pack all of your stuff

  • Invest in good packing materials

Use good-quality moving boxes, tape, bubble wrap, and packing paper. Large boxes for light and bulky items ( blankets, pillows, stuffed animals) and smaller boxes for the rest of your items. Breakables should be wrapped individually. Consider professional packing services, like Primo Moving, for added convenience and peace of mind.

  • Declutter

Go through all of your belongings and get rid of items you no longer need or want. This will make packing and moving easier while saving you money in the long run.

  • Pack room by room

Start with one room at a time and pack all items from that room before moving on to the next. Use a bold marker to write where each box should go, with a room and secondary designation. Be sure to mark containers carrying sharp or fragile items.

  • Disassemble furniture if possible

Take apart any furniture that can be disassembled to make it easier to move. Keep all the screws and hardware in labeled ziplock bags so you don't lose them.

  • Valuables

Separate out any sensitive items such as medication, personal documents, jewelry, and other valuables so you can safely transport them.

  • Furniture pads and covers

Use furniture pads and covers to protect your furniture from scratches and damage during the move. These can be rented from Primo Moving or purchased online.

  • Electronics

Before disassembling electronics, such as TVs and computers, take pictures of the cords and connections to make reassembly seamless.

  • Take care of items that movers can’t move

There are a number of items your movers either can’t or shouldn’t handle- hazardous materials, alcohol, combustible items, plants, and pets, just to name a few. Get a list of prohibited items from your moving company in advance, and keep these things out of the way when your movers arrive.

  • Pack an essentials box

Pack a box with essentials such as toiletries, a change of clothes, and snacks for the first couple of days after your move. This will ensure that you have everything you need right away when you arrive at your new home
